The “Voluntary” Feature
In the ever-evolving landscape of security measures, innovation is key. Athena Security is proud to unveil a groundbreaking addition to our weapons detection systems (WDS) – the “Voluntary” feature. This new capability redefines security protocols, ensuring compliance with best practices even when traditional alerts aren’t triggered.
What is “Voluntary”?
The “Voluntary” feature leverages the inherent deterrent power of weapons detection systems. It’s designed for scenarios where individuals, upon encountering security screening, choose to proactively surrender prohibited items directly to security personnel. This can happen due to various factors:
- Deterrence: The mere presence of a weapons detection security system can dissuade individuals from bringing in prohibited items.
- Convenience: Individuals like off-duty officers or licensed hunters may prefer a direct declaration process
How Does Athena’s “Voluntary” Feature Work?
- No Alert, No Problem: If a person voluntarily surrenders a weapon, up until now the weapons detection system did not issue an alert with the new voluntarily not only does it alert but it follows best practices by DHS 14.2.2 Prohibited Items Log.
- DHS 14.2.2 Logging: The security officer effortlessly uses the “Voluntary” feature within the WDS software which activates the best practices from DHS built in. This logs the incident, captures an image of the item, and generates a detailed prohibited item report.
Why is Athena’s “Voluntary” Feature A Game-Changer?
- Efficiency: Streamlines security checks, especially for those legally carrying weapons.
- Compliance: Aligns with Department of Homeland Security (DHS) best practices, specifically Section 14.2.2 WDS Screening Guide, ensuring proper logging and handling of prohibited items.
- Data Insights: Gathers valuable data on voluntarily surrendered items, aiding in future security strategies.
- Transparency: Establishes a clear record of the incident, enhancing accountability and minimizing disputes.
Aligning with DHS Recommendations
Athena’s “Voluntary” feature directly supports DHS best practices for prohibited items:
- Identification and Logging: Ensures every surrendered item is accurately identified, photographed, and documented in a comprehensive report.
- Proper Disposal: Guides officers through appropriate handling procedures, such as using amnesty boxes, temporary storage, or returning items to vehicles.
- Chain of Custody: Maintains a robust chain of custody through detailed logs, showcasing responsible and secure handling of prohibited items.
